Josephine Falls (Wooroonooran National Park)

Last visited: May 2021

Difficulty: 1/10 (super easy)

Distance 1.4 km return

What's that you say? A beautiful waterfall accessed via a 700 metre short and sealed pavement? Yes you heard correctly!

Whilst we don't classify this gem as a "hike" it is worth a mention, especially due to it's close proximity to two of the most difficult hikes in the region (Broken Nose and Bartle Frere). If you complete either of these hikes and have any ounce of energy left (unlikely) this is a great spot to cool off. It is also just a really nice waterfall that you can swim at and easily spend a day.

So what do you need to know? You can easily Google Maps the start of this trail. The carpark is also where you will find the Bartle Frere (Eastern) access and the trail to Broken Nose.

The start of the trail is easily spotted from the carpark and is easily accessed:

As the sign suggests follow the sealed pathway (what a luxury) 700 metres and you will reach your destination, it is that easy. This is a three tier waterfall.

If you take the first right it will lead you right to the base of the falls.

At the base of the falls there is a beautiful spot to swim and even a natural slide (pretty cool hey?).

When you get back on the trail at the first junction (where you turned right) continue upwards and you will come to a turn off to the second tier:

Keep following the main track up and you will arrive at the final lookout at the top of the falls:

What a great spot. As far as I am aware you can only swim at the base of the falls (first right hand turn). We hope you enjoy.

If you are in the area and looking for a challenge, check out our blog post on Broken Nose. We have also both done Bartle Frere from Eastern and Western side. Whilst we haven't posted any blogs on these trails yet, feel free to send us a message if you want information on these walks.
